Cumnock and Girvan Test Centres Reopen - but Kilmarnock Closes!
Having closed the practical test centres at Cumnock and Girvan, transferring all
driving tests from to the new Ayr MPTC, the DSA have had to reconsider and Cumnock and Girvan test centres have been been back in business since July 2011. |

The New Theory Test
From January 2012, new theory test questions are being introduced using questions that will not be published or available to the public or trainers. The idea is to try to prevent candidates just learning all the pre-published questions and answers and, instead, will have to prepare more thoroughly by actually reading and understanding the Highway Code and the theory behind driving. Most of us would agree in principle that this makes sense, though candidates will not welcome anything that makes the task of getting their licence still harder!
They have already introduced in September 2011 some new case study style questions to try to set realistic scenarios and have candidates answer relevant questions based on applying their knowledge of the theory. This is not difficult if you just read the questions but there is a danger that some people may go into panic mode when faced with the style of problems they might have hated in school!
To help prepare you, there are plenty of good publications, CD and DVD-ROMs readily available. I'd recommend spending around £7 on the latter which will let you practice, using similar questions to what you'll get on the day and will make it all seem much less daunting.
Meanwhile, here is a useful video from the DSA about sitting the Theory Test:
